VADNAIS HEIGHTS, MN REALTOR · LOCAL GUIDE

LIVING IN VADNAIS HEIGHTS

Vadnais Heights incorporated in 1957 and has grown into a city of about 12,900 people in northern Ramsey County. It borders Shoreview, Little Canada, White Bear Lake, Maplewood, North Oaks and Gem Lake, and it sits at one of the busiest crossroads in the Northeast Metro, with I-35E, I-694, U.S. Highway 61 and County Road 96 all running through or along the city.

The big outdoor draw is Vadnais Lake. The lake is part of the regional water supply, so boating and swimming aren’t allowed, but it’s surrounded by protected land with miles of walking trails. Vadnais-Snail Lakes Regional Park covers 1,252 acres of woods and lakes and is operated by Ramsey County in cooperation with the city, with trails, picnic areas and on-shore fishing. The city also maintains more than 100 acres of parkland across 14 parks, including Community Park, where a native-plant food forest was recently added. Every August the city celebrates Vadnais Heights Days, with events at City Hall, Community Park and Kohler Meadows Park.

Most residents own their homes, and neighborhoods are largely established single-family streets with easy access to shopping and services. Thanks to the freeway connections, downtown St. Paul is usually about 15 minutes away and downtown Minneapolis roughly 20 to 25 minutes, which makes Vadnais Heights a practical base for commuters headed in either direction.

The city also has a community gathering spot in the Vadnais Heights Commons, along with a food shelf, youth programs through parks and recreation, and regular events like Breakfast with the Mayor and a fire department open house. For a city of its size, there’s a strong small-town habit of showing up for local events, and the summer festival in August is the clearest example of it.
